What is CoverColorado?
A non-profit organization, whose mission is to provide a health
insurance program that promotes access to health care for Coloradans
whose health prohibits or substantially limits access to commercial
health insurance. CoverColorado was established the Colorado legislature to provide health coverage to anyone who was denied coverage or charged a higher rate by a commercial insurance carrier because of pre-existing conditions.
Applicants who have had six months of creditable insurance coverage, without a lapse of coverage of more than 90 days from their application submission date, will have full coverage on their effective date with proof of prior coverage. Applicants who cannot provide proof of prior coverage will have a six month pre-existing waiting period on their account, so all medical services and prescriptions relating to their pre-existing condition(s) will be at their expense for the first six months on the plan.
CoverColorado also offers a Coordination of Benefits Plan (COB) to supplement Medicare to Coloradans under 65 who are currently enrolled in Medicare Parts A and B because of a disability, but who missed the enrollment period for a Medicare supplement.
As a result of the passage of the Affordable Care Act, insurance carriers will no longer be able to deny anyone insurance or charge them a higher rate because of their medical conditions beginning January 1, 2014, so there will no longer be a need for CoverColorado.
CoverColorado will no longer be accepting applications after November 15, 2013 since Coloradans will have other options available to them. Coloradans can start shopping and enrolling now for a new health plan to be effective January 1, 2014 at www.connectforhealthco.com or by calling: 855-Plans-4-YOU (855-752-6749).
